Show No Mercy

Each week we read a portion of the Torah so that as one year passes, we will have read it all. Each section is called a parsha.

This week, we read Parshat Zachor. Zachor means to remember...

Parshat Zachor in which we are commanded to remember what Amalek did to us and the commandment to ensure it never happens again.

What did he and his people do?

They decided to go to war against the people of Israel...but that's not why we are commanded to remember him, not why we must destroy all traces of him...

He sent his army...cowards that they were...not to challenge our army, but to sneak up on the back of the long convoy of people marching...the elderly, the sick, the children. In short, the innocent.

Those that attack the innocent - deserve to be obliterated...nothing less.

Attack our army - and we'll fight you back. Attack our children...our weak...and all the might of our people, our prayers, our strength...all this we will throw against you.

As you showed no mercy, expect none from us.

This is the lesson we are commanded to hear each year. Remember what Amalek did to us...remember what Haman did to us...remember.

Shabbat shalom....

  1. I'm thinking of Micha 4:
"Now also many nations are gathered against thee, that say, Let her be defiled, and let our eye look upon TZiyon. But they know not the thoughts of YY , neither understand they his counsel: for he shall gather them as the sheaves into the floor. Arise and thresh, O daughter of TZiyon: for I will make thine shofar iron, and I will make thy hoofs brass: and thou shalt beat in pieces many people: and I will consecrate their gain unto YY , and their substance unto YY of the whole earth."

and I'm thinking of Isaiah 46:
"My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: ... I will place salvation in Ziyon for Yisrael my glory."
