Simple and Complex and Lebanon

Sometimes, the situation is so complex...and sometimes, it's very simple. I'll give you an example of each...

Gaza and the hostage situation - that's complex. The simplest solution, one that most countries would adopt, including the US, certainly England, Russian, France, China...most countries is to say - wow you hit us hard...so we'll hit you harder so you learn your lesson.

They'd get away with it, have gotten away with it. But not Israel. No, we have to act "proportionally". And it doesn't matter what we do because no matter what, our response will be disproportional. Complex...the took 252 hostages...90 remain. But we are not allowed to search for them in Rafah, not allowed to bomb the buildings from which they fire rockets or store explosives...if the UN puts their logo on it. There is international law, which the Gazans have violated for every single day of the last 15 months. And there is the law for Israel. Complex.

And then, there's simple. Lebanon is simple. First, every nation in the world is responsible for what happens inside its borders. If a lunatic in Michigan decided to fire rockets into Canada...the US government has to shut that lunatic down or accept responsibility. They can't say to Canada - oops...listen, he's a lunatic, you can't blame us.

 
Hezbollah are Lebanon's lunatics. Their problem, not ours. Unless.

So Lebanon let the lunatics run free; Israel stepped in to stop them. Lebanon screamed - they're in our country, they're in our country. Yeah, well, your lunatics, your rockets.

So after months of lunatic fire, a ceasefire is agreed upon. Conditions are pretty clear...20 years ago, we agreed you weren't allowed to allow your lunatics below the Litani River. And, now that we've mostly pushed them back (and shown you and the world the massive amounts of weapons and rockets they had there), we're not letting them back in. 

So, Lebanon, man-up. Move your troops to the south and stop Hezbollah from returning. Seems pretty clear, right? Simple, right?

Well, today, the lunatics are encouraging the people of Lebanon to come on back down...and Lebanon didn't do as it promised. And so, Israel is responding - no, we're not going to let you go back to the conditions before the ceasefire, unless we go back there to.

 
Civilians (with Hezbollah activists dressing as civilians (even perhaps women...unless Lebanese women are bowlegged and have mustaches) as well), are testing Israel.

 
So let me explain. We are in no mood to be tested. Remember our complex problem? We can't flatten Gaza, but we can flatten Southern Lebanon. Lebanon is a sovereign, free-standing, free-falling nation. Stand. Fall. We don't give a damn. Just do it above the Litani River and don't point any weapons or rockets our way.

Really, for a country fighting a 7-front war, it's time Lebanon remembers it took responsibility of stopping Hezbollah 60 days ago...

Man-up Lebanon because we will (and are) open fire on ANYONE who attempts to return, as per the agreement we have with you. You break it, it's broken.
