Jews and Druze: Yesterday's Victims Demand World Attention for Today's Victims

They believed, in 1939, that it could not happen. In 1945, though they'd known early, they admitted it had happened. The world rose in the mornings, dined, lived, and went to sleep every night of every one of the years in between without doing anything to save my great grandmother, my husband's grandparents...all of them. They were taken from their homes, dehumanized, abused, attacked and ultimately murdered. They cut their beards, shaved them, starved them, beat them, gassed them, cremated them...and then urged the world to forget.

In 1945, they promised never again. It became the slogan without them ever admitting that they were the reason it happened. In 1946, they were still attacking the Jews of Europe.

Hitler did not happen in a vacuum; the Nazi conquest of Europe had allies in every country they conquered. People who valued their lives over their neighbors and sold their souls to the devil to save themselves. Some aided with information, physical assistance. But most helped by turning their backs; their only contribution their enduring silence.

In 1948, Israel was RE-established. Our ancient homeland returned, reconquered forever and from that moment, we took on the responsibility to save all Jews, no matter where they were, no matter where they are. Never again...because WE won't allow it. For us, for others.

So, we saved the Jews from Yemen and Ethiopia. We took in the Vietnamese boat people...because no one would. And we tried. OMG, we tried to right the world's injustices, the world's tragedies.

On October 7, we learned the bitter truth that what we'd wanted to believe was a lie. And we made a promise - if not to the world, than to ourselves. If the world would not stand with us, we would, by God, we would stand alone. And today, while much of the world is silent, we must move, we are moving.

Today and yesterday, they are slaughtering the Druze - the beautiful people who, like the Jews of Europe, just wanted to be left alone to practice their religion, to worship their God.

The videos coming out of Syria are horrific. Massive slaughter. Dehumanizing. World, where are you? Did you learn nothing?

Before the concentration camps and gas chambers, there were Nazis who cut the payot (the side curls and beards) of Jewish men. This week...this week...they cut the mustaches off the Druze men in Syria...butchered whole families.

First they came for the Jews - your neighbors, and you did nothing. Now they come for the Druze - our neighbors. Do you not understand that you are next? They will come for you...they already are.

There are at least a dozen videos of the barbaric slaughter of whole families in the Druze community in Syria. Yesterday, Israel allowed (or didn't stop) Israeli Druze rushing to try to help their people. Israeli planes bombed advancing Syrian troops as they drew close to the Druze village. Where is the world?

BBC leads off with a tale of Israeli bombing..."after sectarian clashes". Sectarian clashes? Is that what you call a massacre? The deliberate dehumanization of a village? Mutilation of the dead by Syrians?

Ironically, unlike today, BBC broadcast a story reporting that 700,000 Jews had been murdered in Poland, including mass murders. They detailed the use of gas chambers and the killing of up to 1,000 people per day. The world did nothing to protect the Jews as they were murdered within their own borders...What hope is there now that they will unite to save the Druze?

Today's BBC has lost its moral compass. Instead of writing of how Syrian forces attacked and massacred Druze civilians, it dismisses this as "sectarian clashes" and rushes to note Israel's apparent act of aggression against those who committed the massacre of innocent civilians.

Only Israel. Only Israel sent its air force to try to protect the Druze, to try to push the Syrian forces away from the village.

Today, the sun is shining, the sky brilliantly blue. People go to work. Enjoy the warmth. While the forces of cold and darkness celebrate.

How? How do you allow this to happen again? Where are you? Stop what you are doing. Call someone. Anyone. Do SOMETHING.

Stop the massacre of the Druze people...the gentle people who helped me when I had a flat tire, the sweet mother who say beside me in the hospital waiting for her son to come for her. Stop. Scream. Cry. Call your Senator or Congressional Representative, your President, your Prime Minister. Israel is operating alone to save them.

Where, dear world, where the hell are you?
